Coal tar is a known carcinogen derived from burning coal. it is a complex mixture of hundreds of compounds, many of which are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (pahs) [1],[2]. coal tar is used in food, textiles, cosmetics and personal care products. experimental studies have found that application of and exposure to coal tar produce skin tumors and neurological damage.
Known to significantly irritate and damage skin.
A chelating (binding) agent added to cosmetics to improve stability and penetration enhancer. EDTA is deemed safe for the skin, but poor for the environment due to its persistent pollutant
Are key examples of ethanolamines—a chemical group comprised of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) and alcohols. In cosmetics formulations, DEA may react with other ingredients to form a carcinogen called nitrosodiethanolamine (NDEA) which is absorbed through the skin.
Can cause an allergic reaction in the skin (allergic contact dermatitis), which can lead to an itchy, red rash which may become raised or develop blisters.
Used for exfoliating and cleansing, that are non-biodegradable in the aquatic environment. microbeads may not be filtered through treatment filtration systems and end up in our lakes and oceans, where they may be mistaken for food by small fish and other wildlife.

Considered a hazardous eye irritant and, as an allergen, is also known to cause skin allergies. As a hormone disruptor to coral, it also causes hormone disruption in humans, affecting estrogen production particularly in women and testosterone production in men
Commonly added to prevent and reduce the growth of harmful bacteria and mold, increasing the shelf life of the product studies suggest that parabens can disrupt hormones in the body and harm fertility and reproductive organs, affect birth outcomes, and increase the risk of cancer. They can also cause skin irritation
Linked to endocrine disruption, developmental and reproductive toxicity, and cancer
The primary concern with PEG compounds is that ethylene oxide is used in their production in a process called ethoxylation. This process can cause contamination with ethylene oxide, a chemical associated with multiple kinds of cancer. Additionally, ethoxylated ingredients can also be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which is also a carcinogen.
Retinyl palmitate is an ingredient composed of palmitic acid and retinol (Vitamin A). An FDA study confirmed that retinyl palmitate, when applied to the skin in the presence of sunlight, may speed the development of skin tumors and lesions.
Aningredient derived from ethoxylated lauryl alcohol and used as a surfactant; may be contaminated with potentially toxic manufacturing impurities such as 1,4-dioxane. sls and sles are surfactants that can cause skin irritation or trigger allergies.
Represents an undisclosed mixture of various scent chemicals and ingredients used as fragrance dispersants. Fragrance mixes have been associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system.
An ingredient added to many products intended to reduce or prevent bacterial contamination.

OUR COMMITMENT

Unfortunately, there is such still such a divide when it comes to banned ingredients between the EU and U.S. There are over 1,400 chemicals banned in personal care products by the EU and only 11 in the US. We are committed to health and safety that is required in the EU, as well as extending the list further, eliminating ingredients that are known to cause any skin sensitivities. We will continually update this list as needed, as we continue to learn and as regulations globally continue to evolve.
